Sheaffer used his jewellery expertise to create a device which would allow users to fill a pen with ink much easier, cleaner and be more aesthetically-pleasing. Sheaffer, dedicated his life savings to his idea of a pen-filling apparatus that initiates a lever system. By the 1930's, Sheaffer pens had solidified itself as a leader in the luxury pen market. The fountain pens were advertised as the pen that fills instantly from any ink-well, with one touch of a finger.
Instantly, Sheaffer became a household name and must-have product. They have been innovators in their illustrious existence. They pioneered different nib styles in the 1920 making them more reliable, they were one of the first pen manufacturers to move away from hard rubber materials to celluloid, they altered pen shapes and introduced innovation such as the snorkel filling system.
When Sheaffer withdrew the Javelin model from the market place it was replaced by two different pen variants, that covered divergent market segments; the 100 and the 300. The 100 is the smaller and less expensive model and perhaps targeted the entry level market. The 300 is a more substantive pen aimed at perhaps the more expensive mid market range like the Javelin, however it was also more expensive that the Javelin model that it partially replaced.
The 300 was introduced to the market place in 2009 and had a heavy brass body, various finishes and either gold or chrome plated trim. The pen continues to be produced today with sub set models such as the red or black Ferrari model appearing in 2012. The Sheaffer 300 is in keeping with Sheaffers' traditional excellent build quality and innovative design.
On offer is a vintage Sheaffer 300 fountain pen and ballpoint pen set in a Black Gloss lacquer finish accentuated with a 23k gold trim.
